OBJECTIVE: To observe the efficacy of trimebutine maleate in the treatment of constipation-type irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Methods: 53 patients with IBS who were treated in our hospital from February 2010 to February 2011 were treated with trimebutine maleate. The clinical symptoms and the curative effect were observed before and after treatment.

Results: Fifty - three patients with IBS were treated with 18 cases, 22 cases were effective, 11 cases were effective and 2 cases were ineffective. The total score of the clinical symptoms in the 53 patients before treatment was 398 points, the average score was (7.51 ± 2.4) points; the total score of the clinical symptoms after treatment was 128 points, the average score was (2.42 ± 0.13). The difference was statistically significant (P <0.05).

Conclusion: Trimebutine maleate is better for the treatment of IBS patients, can improve the clinical symptoms and reduce the symptom score, and has a good application value.
